What is it?
The basic police academy curriculum is mandated by the State of Louisiana. New officers require this training to receive their peace officer certification. While we cannot overhaul the basic police academy curriculum, we can help citizens better understand that training by increasing transparency and citizen involvement.
What does it change?
In the past, the Citizens Police Academy was mostly an informational session for curious citizens. The revamped Citizens Police Academy initiative invites citizens to undergo the same training Shreveport Police officers undergo, but in a truncated format that is more digestible for citizens.
How will it improve our police department?
These training sessions will enable citizens to experience the same techniques and policies that dictate behavior and use of force for Shreveport Police officers. This will provide citizens with a better understanding of the training material and the situation officers encounter in the field.
